The Punjab Pollution Control Board organised a meeting with brick-kiln owners of the Payal region here on Friday.

Environmental Engineer Avtar Singh and Assistant Environmental Engineer Ravideep Singla apprised the brick-kiln owners of the new firing design — zig-zag firing — with inducted draft technology. They said the inducted draft technology was more efficient than the earlier installed bull-trench technology and would help reduce the coal consumption and pollution. Brick-kiln representatives were guided to use fly-ash content while moulding the bricks which will reduce the manufacturing cost by saving material cost and firing cost.

The owners were also guided to provide two matric-pass representatives from every firm which can be trained by the Punjab State Council of Science and Technology regarding the best practices to be adopted to curb pollution from the brick-kilns. Brick-kilns have been advised by the board to adopt the induced draft technology before the deadline — March 31, 2019. Brick-kiln owners promised to approach the Punjab State Council of Science and Technology to adopt the induced draft technology.
