Ludhiana: GHG Khalsa College of Pharmacy, Gurusar Sadhar, hosted a freshers’ party. The freshers put up a great show in competing for the crowns of Mr and Miss Fresher. Students displayed their talents in the form of singing, dancing and poetry. Gursimran Singh of BPharmacy and Suman Angra of MPharm were judged Mr and Miss Fresher, respectively. Principal Satvinder Kaur congratulated the organisers for a successful event.

PArkash Purb celebrated

The department of fine arts of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan campus, Model Town, organised an event, Rasa in art slide show, as part of the on-going golden jubilee celebrations of the college. Students gave a power point presentation in which detailed technical and aesthetic aspects were highlighted. The general secretary of college governing body, Gurvinder Singh, congratulated the students for their efforts and highlighted the importance of art in life. Principal Manjit Kaur underlined the relevance of such shows and said they brought out the hidden talent of students.

Swachhta Pakhwada observed

The youth club of the Khalsa College for Women observed Swachhta Pakhwada as per the instructions of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The club carried out an event to promote the re-use of empty green coconut shells usually responsible for clogging city’s drains during monsoon season and act as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Members of the club collected empty shells from roadsides and used them to plant sapling to create awareness regarding the elimination of usage of plastic bags in nurseries. These shells were distributed in various schools to sensitise students regarding this type of waste.

Karatekas of GCG bag 22 medals

The players of the Government College for Girls brought laurels by bagging 22 medals in the national karate championship. Principal Manju Sahni appreciated the efforts of the players and congratulated them for bagging eight gold, six silver and eight bronze medals. The college also won the overall trophy. She credited the achievement to the hard work of the players and their coach. Three players, Kumari Jeena Khan, Kajal Kashyup and Shallu Verma, have been selected for the international championship.

Most impressive classroom contest

The NSS unit of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT) organised a “Most impressive classroom contest” to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Students of BBA, BCA, BCom, hotel management, BSc (Fashion Technology), MBA and MCA were asked to decorate their classrooms on the theme “Divine teachings of Guru Nanak Dev”. Students used their creativity to prepare charts, posters, collages, hangings and other craft items to adorn their classrooms. 

students on ways to conserve water

The Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women organised a seminar on water conservation. Gunjan Mittal, Assistant Professor in the department of mathematics was the keynote speaker. She sensitised students about the significance of water and threw light on various causes behind the decreasing water levels. Students also expressed their concern about this threatening issue and suggested several do’s and don’ts to conserve water. TNS
