A constable of the Punjab police tried to commit suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver, resulting in serious head injuries to him. The injured has been identified as Navjeet Singh (24), a resident of Hoshiarpur.

As per information, the injured was between Neelon and the Garhi road on the banks of Sirhind Canal when he turned his car towards the fields of Pal Majra village. After stopping his car on a kutcha road, he took out his revolver and shot himself in the head.

A farmer noticed the car and he informed others about the incident. On being informed, DSP (H) Vikas Sabharwal, along a police team, reached the spot and found the youth lying in a pool of blood on the driver’s seat. The injured was rushed to the local Civil Hospital where the doctors referred him to the PGI, Chandigarh.

Sabharwal said the injured constable was posted with Additional Sessions Judge of Hoshiarpur and the police were investigating the cause. The DSP confirmed that the injured shot himself with a 38.bore revolver and he was struggling for life at the hospital.

According to information, the injured was recruited on a priority basis and was performing his duty as a gunman of the Judge at Hoshiarpur.
