DORAHA: The team of Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School defeated the Birla Vihar team from Rajasthan and won league matches of the CBSE National Hockey Tourney, being played at Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, on Wednesday.

The team of Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School defeated the Birla Vihar team from Rajasthan and won league matches of the CBSE National Hockey Tourney, being played at Guru Nanak Model Senior Secondary School, on Wednesday.

Dr MS Kang, former PAU Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the fourth day of the tourney. He opined: “I have visited the institution several times and transitions I witness every time are remarkable. I appreciate the participants and exhort them to channelise their energy in a positive way.”

CBSE Observer Amit Tayagi said the tourney is being conducted in a smooth and systematic manner. “The school has made elaborate arrangements for the successful conduct of the tournament. Each and every need of the participants has been taken care of — stay, food, entertainment, general health and hygiene,” he added.

Bhim Singh Tyagi, Technical Advisor, appointed by the CSBE for the national tourney, applauded the arrangements and services being provided by the school to participants. “The systematic, free and fair manner in which matches are being conducted speaks volumes about the management, principal, staff and the conducting team of the school,” he added.

In the U-17 boys’ category, Som Convent Gurukul (KKR) defeated JKG International School, Ghaziabad, by 6-0 whereas Little Angels School, Sonepat, — girls (U-17) — won the match against Satchidananda Jyothi Nikethan International School, Kallar, 5-0. In the U-17 boys’, Sainik School Goal Para Assam won the match 7-0 against Satchidananda Jyothi Nikethan International School, Kallar. In the U-17 girls, General Raj’s School, New Delhi, triumphed by scoring 2-0 against OP Jindal School Raigarh (CG) whereas St Pauls, Rampur, U-17 girls overpowered Police Modern School, Etawah, 2-0. In the U-17 girls, Guru Nanak Model School, Doraha, beat Birla Shishu Vihar 4-1.

In the U-19 boys’ category, Som Convent Gurukul (KKR) defeated Sainik School, Amravati Nagar, by 5-0 while Dr Amrit Lal, IMS-Varanasi, thrashed OP Jindal School, Raigarh, by 4-0. A match was played between Gurukul School Ghaziabad and Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya, Rajasthan, in which the former won the match 5-1. The next match was played between SRVM, Haridwar, and Krishna Public School, Raipur (U-19 girls), wherein the former emerged winners by 11-0. In the U-19 girls’, Arya Girls Public School, Panipat, triumphed 6-0 against Indian School Alseeb, Muscat. In the U-19 boys’ category, Guru Nanak Model School, Doraha, suppressed Indian School, Muscat, 7-1.
