Drug addict sets wife’s Activa on fire

LUDHIANA: The police have booked a man for allegedly putting Activa scooter of her wife on fire at Sham Nagar, Ludhiana.

The police have booked a man for allegedly putting Activa scooter of her wife on fire at Sham Nagar, Ludhiana. The accused has been identified as Surjit Singh.

In her statement, Gurjit Kaur alleged that her husband was a drug addict.

Gurjit Kaur, along with her child and mother-in-law, live together.

She alleged that the accused entered their home around 1:30 am on September 14 and started sprinkling petrol on the Activa scooter and also towards her.

She and her mother-in-law ran inside the house to protect themselves, but her husband set the scooter on fire.

“After threatening us, the accused fled from the spot. He then came back in the morning and started thrashing me and my mother-in-law,” she alleged.

Kaur got married to Surjit Singh around six years ago. ASI Balwinder Singh said the accused was once a good kabaddi player, but he then turned to drugs.

Balwinder Singh said a case under Sections 323, 342, 436, 427 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against the accused at the Dugri police station. Efforts are on to nab the accused, he added.
