FIR against Bedi for misusing party symbol

Ludhiana, February 20

The Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) rebel, Harpreet Singh Bedi, who was shown the door by the party, faces FIR for misusing the party symbol.

A case been registered under Section 171F (Punishment for undue influence or personation at an election), 171 G (False statement in connection with an election), IPC, against Bedi. The police took action after the former SAD MLA, Ranjit Singh Dhillon, submitted a complaint to the ACP (West), Gurpreet Singh in this connection.

As per the complainant, Bedi was given ticket by the party for contesting election from Ward No. 72. However, he was expelled by the SAD-B for resorting to anti-party activities. Later, party announced support to an independent-cum- Congress rebel Ravinder Kumar.

“We have noticed that expelled leader Bedi has been using photographs of SAD president in order to influence voters. Several hoardings used by him also have photographs of SAD and BJP leaders, which is a blatant misuse in the elections,” stated Dhilon to the police.
