A two-day international conference is being held at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Ludhiana, to mark the centenary celebrations.

On this occasion, delegates and research scholars had come to present their research papers from various places. In total, 15 research papers were read and presented in the first technical session. Delegates and research scholars had come from Saudi Arabia, Jammu, Bhopal, Lucknow, Gurgaon, Hisar, Moga, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Patiala, Jalandhar, Dabwali and many other faraway places

It is being organised by the Parwasi Punjabi Sahit Kendra of the PG Department of Punjabi in collaboration with Punjab Bhawan ,Surrey(Canada).

The inaugural session was presided by the cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu. He welcomed the NRI investors. He also announced a grant of Rs 5,00,000 per year for a period of five years to Parvasi Adhyan Kender of the college.

Padam Shri Dr Dilip Kaur Tiwana emphasised on the role of mother tongue in an individual’s life. While addressing the students she said the students must read good literature because it was the literature only where information, knowledge and wisdom can be and should be searched.

Dr SP Singh, general secretary, Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Council, and college principal Dr Arvinder Singh said this conference would enhance, enrich and promote Punjabi language, literature and culture.

Sidhu presented with books

A small function was held at the residence of former Additional Advocate General, Punjab, Harpreet Sandhu, where Navjot Singh Sidhu was presented the famous work on the raagas — a book titled ‘Raag Ratan’ authored by TPS Sandhu and the award-winning book on Comparative Law Study — ‘Ghana - Indian Legal System’ authored by Advocate Harpreet Sandhu.

Sidhu ducks Gurjit’s resignation row

Navjot Singh Sidhu avoided all questions over the resignation of Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh.  “Though I have heard about the news reports, I am not confirmed about the development. Whether it is the personal decision of the minister or decision of the high command, I will not comment without verifying it,” Sidhu said.
