Four hundred principals from senior secondary schools held a meeting with Education Secretary Krishan Kumar in Mohali on Monday wherein they were not only motivated to improve their schools but also nearby schools as well.

“The motto of a smart school is to raise learning level of students. By 2019, the results of ‘Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab’ will improve. School buildings will be renovated and involvement of parents will be increased,” said Krishan Kumar, Education Secretary.

As the Education Department has not been releasing funds, teachers have been revamping schools with the help of community involvement and donations from NRIs.

Recently, 111 teachers in the Patiala district were formed into groups of five each and sent to various schools. The teachers were told to improve 10 schools in their respective areas.

Scores of primary schools have built play way under the ‘Khed Mahal’ project. Walls of primary schools have been painted with cartoon characters to attract children.

The Education Secretary has set a target for 4,250 primary schools to be converted into smart schools with assitance of teachers.
