Illegal foreign currency worth Rs51 lakh seized

KHANNA: The police have seized illegal foreign currency worth about Rs 51 lakh at a naka on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana road.

The police have seized illegal foreign currency worth about Rs 51 lakh at a naka on the Chandigarh-Ludhiana road.

Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said a team of the Maloud police, led by SHO Manjit Singh, set up a naka near Hedon village following a tip-off. The police searched a person, named Joginder, who was coming from Sundernagar in Himachal Pradesh and going towards Ludhiana. The search yielded Australian $2,575, £200, Canadian $640, Oman currency 250, Japan Yen 10,000, Euro 23,375, US $35,600 and Malaysian currency 50, all valued about Rs 51 lakh.

According to the SSP, the arrested person was handed over to the Enforcement Directorate for further legal action, as he failed to produce documents about the foreign currency at the time of his arrest.

The SP (I) Khanna, Jasvir Singh, was also present during the recovery and arrest of the man.
