Ludhiana, October 23

With dengue cases increasing in the city, the demand for goat milk has surged. However, there is no scientific evidence of goat milk being effective in the cure for dengue.

Goat milk, which is generally available for Rs 50 per kg, is now being sold at Rs 500-1,000 per kg. Banners of “Goat milk is available here” can be seen displayed outside the houses of goat breeders. Some have even pasted pamphlets near hospitals.

In the search of goat milk, residents even visit the goat market that is held every Tuesday and Saturday on Jalandhar Bypass.

“Many people come to us and insist on giving goat milk before selling it. They are ready to give any price for a glass of milk. We also don’t mind as in this way we are earning extra money,” said Mohammad Karim, a goat breeder.

Many goat breeders have launched a package to attract customers. Gurmail Singh, a farmer from Dhandra village, said he charged Rs 2,000 for supplying a patient with goat milk till he was cured.

Daksh Khanna, whose mother has been diagnosed with dengue, said he saw a remarkable increase in the health of his mother after he started giving her goat milk.
