Ludhiana, July 15

Tension brewed at Sabzi Mandi on Bahadurke Road today when a group of around 20-25 people allegedly attacked an arhtiya and left him injured.

The victim has been identified as Karandeep Singh Honey, who said a joint programme of the Arhtiyas and Rehri Ferri Association was to be held at Park No. 6 where tents were being installed.

Honey alleged that when he took workers to the venue to install tents, parking contractor Miki Sahni and Ferri Union president Ramesh Badla alongwith their men abused and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons. The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital in an injured state.

After coming to know about the incident, arhtiyas gathered near the main gate and raised slogans against high-handedness of the Mandi Board officials and the contractor. Later, arhtiyas barricaded the main road to protest against the attack.

Seeing the situation going out of hand, the police officials and political leaders reached the spot and tried to pacify the agitators.

The Basti Jodhewal police have booked three people, including Miki Sahni, Ramesh and Inderjit under Section 307 of the IPC.

On the intervention of local leaders, arhtiyas lifted the dharna.
