Veggie prices soar in city

LUDHIANA: Vegetables, such as potato and onions are available in the retail market for Rs 15 and Rs 20 per kilogram, respectively, but prices of almost all other veggies have seen an increase in the past few days.

Vegetables, such as potato and onions are available in the retail market for Rs 15 and Rs 20 per kilogram, respectively, but prices of almost all other veggies have seen an increase in the past few days. 

The retailers maintain that in the next month or so, prices will remain like this till the new produce arrives in the market.

Peas are available for about Rs 80-90 per kg in the retail market while lemons are for Rs 120 per kg. 

Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 40 and Rs 50 while bitter gourd is for Rs 110-Rs 120 per kg. Turai is being sold for Rs 40 a kg while apple gourd for Rs 120 per kg. 

Carrot and cauliflower have not seen any increase in prices and these are available for Rs 40 per kg approximately.

Rahul, a vegetable vendor at Ghumar Mandi, said since shelf value of vegetables decreases in acute summers, these are available and sold at higher rates.
