Greed for claiming his father’s insurance money allegedly led a youth to run his car over his father killing him. The police said the youth, belonging to Bothan village of Fatehabad, allegedly  crushed his father to death after making him drunk.

The police have arrested Kuldeep (23) and efforts are on to arrest his accomplice Rajender and two insurance agents, Pala Ram and Khan. The insurance company agents had allegedly issued a Rs 70 lakh policy in the name of the victim, Omkar (50), by paying the premium from their own pocket with an understanding that they would get 70 per cent of the claim amount and the rest would go to Kuldeep.

Fatehabad Superintendent of Police Sangeeta Kalia said an FIR was lodged in the hit-and-run case on Kuldeep’s complaint on July 27. She said the police had recovered a body from the Bothan road, and that when they called Kuldeep after its identification, he said his father had gone to the fields near Palsar village at night. He told the police that he too had accompanied his father, who stayed back as he returned home. Kalia said the police got suspicious when they noticed tyre marks on the victim’s body, which was found lying straight unlike in cases of accidents. The police also found some inconsistencies in the statements of Kuldeep.

When the police quizzed Kuldeep, he said he and Rajender made Omkar drink liquor in excess and forced him to lie down on the road. The accused then ran the car over him, said the police. Kuldeep said he had borrowed money from Rajender, but was not in a position to pay it back. He, therefore, hatched the conspiracy, said the police.
