India closely monitoring Bangladesh hostage crisis

NEW DELHI: India is closely monitoring the Bangladesh hostage crisis even as officials here maintained that so far all Indian High Commission staffers in Dhaka were reportedly safe.

India is closely monitoring the Bangladesh hostage crisis even as officials here maintained that so far all Indian High Commission staffers in Dhaka were reportedly safe.

According to government sources, there were several unconfirmed reports emerging on the status of the operation by Bangladesh security forces and therefore, India was ascertaining the facts.

India is closely monitoring the situation. Reports received here so far said India High Commission officials are safe, sources said.

Bangladesh’s hostage crisis began when suspected Islamic State militants stormed a restaurant in Dhaka’s high-security Gulshan diplomatic area on Friday night and held many people hostage, including foreigners. PTI
