Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today said PM Narendra Modi’s demonetisation decision was not against corruption or black money, but against the underprivileged, farmers and labourer.

Moments after PM Modi sought support for his war against corruption at a parivartan rally in Kanpur, Rahul dismissed the PM’s contention while addressing a Jan Akrosh rally at Jaunpur’s BRP school grounds.

He urged every Congress worker to take upon himself the duty to expose the truth behind demonetisation. “PM Modi has taken blood out of the veins of 99 per cent of honest Indians with his demonetisation decision,” Rahul alleged.

Ridiculing the Modi government’s understanding of black money, he said all cash was not black money just as all black money was not in cash.

He said the government had itself claimed that 94 per cent black money was stashed away in foreign banks, real estate and gold. “Then why is the PM running after the only remaining 6 per cent,” he said.

Around Rs 6 lakh crore was deposited in Indian banks in September. It was the largest amount to have been deposited in the nation’s history. “There is no answer when we ask whose money that was,” he said.

About his recent meeting with the PM, Rahul said he submitted signatures of 2 crore farmers demanding loan waiver, halving of power bills and remunerative prices for vegetables. “He remained silent about the demands. He had nothing to say,” he said.
