Sufi fest begins without Pak delegation in Jaipur

JAIPUR: The Jaipur Sufi Festival began here today without a 25-member Pakistani delegation of artistes, poets, authors and academics, who backed out of the event after India decided not to participate in the SAARC Summit in Islamabad.

Jaipur, October 14

The Jaipur Sufi Festival began here today without a 25-member Pakistani delegation of artistes, poets, authors and academics, who backed out of the event after India decided not to participate in the SAARC Summit in Islamabad.

The event is organised by the Foundation of SAARC Writers and Literature. Barring the Pakistanis, about 200 participants from SAARC nations are listed for the three-day deliberations.

Finding Sufi mystic tradition relevant to the present society, Union Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal stressed that terrorism could be eliminated by spreading Sufism that had played a pivotal role in breaking superstitions and blind faith. — OC
