Waiting for officers of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for the last 24 hours, farmers at the Bahadurpur village grain market on the Sangrur-Barnala road had an unexpected guest when the cavalcade of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh stopped there and started checking the purchase of wheat.

The Cm was going to Faridkot to attend a public meeting of the party candidate there after attending a meeting of party workers at Sangrur.

“FCI officers have been harassing us and they are not making the required purchase. Yesterday there was no purchase as officers were unwilling even to listen to us and saying that there is high moisture content in grains,” said Avtar Singh Kaler, sarpanch of Bahadurpur.

After the CM entered the grain market, within minutes a large number of farmers converged. The Chief Minister had interaction with farmers for almost 15 minutes and farmers shared their tales of woes and demanded immediate action against officers concerned. “The CM assured them of taking up the matter with higher officers of the FCI at the earliest. After the CM’s intervention, the FCI has started purchase,” said Gurmukh Singh, another farmer from the village.
