Sangrur, July 1

The Meemsa Jabar Virodhi Action Committee, a group of 30 different organisations, today first organised a rally in the grain market of Dhuri, then protested in the town and also blocked Kakkarwal chowk for the arrest of all 30 accused, who allegedly attacked four leaders of different organisations on June 15.

Protesters alleged that some politicians of the ruling Congress were protecting the accused and pressurising the police to delay action. The protesters demanded the adding of Section 307 of the IPC to the FIR registered on June 16.

“Under the pressure of politicians of the ruling Congress, the police are helping the accused,” said Sanjeev Mintu, state president of the Krantikari Pendu Mazdoor Union (KPMU).
