Bathinda, October 11

The Panchkula police today brought Honeypreet, the adopted daughter of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, to the district’s Jangirana village for the second time as part of the investigation into her possible hideout while she was on the run.

She was taken to the house of Gurmeet Singh, a close relative of Iqbal Singh whose wife Sukhdeep Kaur was arrested with Honeypreet.

The Panchkula police had searched Iqbal’s house in Jangirana village on October 5.

The police reached the village at 10.50 am and searched the house for more than an hour. This time, the Panchkula police did not inform their Bathinda counterparts to avoid the media presence and local residents. Bathinda SSP Naveen Singla confirmed this.

The police said Honeypreet stayed in Gurmeet’s home for about a week while she was on the run.

Nirmal Singh, sarpanch of the village, said no member of Gurmeet’s family, barring his mother Sharanjeet Kaur, was present in the house during the stay of Honeypreet and Sukhdeep.

“Two persons in an SUV brought Honeypreet and Sukhdeep to the house. They stayed in a room on the roof,” he said.

According to Sharanjeet, Honeypreet never came down; only Sukhdeep came down to make food.

Nirmal said when Sharanjeet learnt about Honeypreet’s presence, she asked the “unwelcome visitors” to leave the house immediately. They left soon after.
