A farmer of Maha Badhar village (Muktsar) has allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison.

The deceased, Gurpreet Singh (27), owed about Rs15 lakh to a bank and a commission agent. He owned two acres.

Sources said he was upset over the damage to his crops. He had given a cheque to the commission agent, which however bounced.

Gurpreet is survived by a five-year-old daughter, a three-year-old son, a wife and a mother.

In Mansa, Ajmer Singh (45) of Dalel Singh Wala village consumed poison on Friday. He was rushed to hospital, where he was declared brought dead. His brother Gurmail Singh said Ajmer owned eight acres and was under Rs11 lakh debt. “He was under stress because of his inability to repay the debt,” he said.
