The Income Tax Department today failed to produce any evidence against Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in a case of alleged tax evasion.

On the request of I-T Department’s lawyer, Chief Judicial Magistrate Suresh Kumar Goyal adjourned the hearing till February 4.

On the last hearing, Income Tax Department lawyer Rakesh Gupta had sought the adjournment with the plea that the department wanted to lead evidence.

On November 28, 2018, the court of Additional Sessions Judge Rajeev K Beri had set aside the summoning order passed against the Chief Minister and his son Raninder Singh in three cases of alleged tax evasion.

All three cases were remanded back with directions to proceed as per law, in view of observations made in the quashing order.

The Income Tax Department had placed on record copies of documents obtained from the French authorities with claim that documents support their tax evasion claims. But the appellate court had put a question mark over the admissibility of these documents.

The Income Tax Department was able to produce one witness Dr Amanpreet Kaur who deposed in a case of alleged tax evasion against CM’s son Raninder Singh. Her evidence could not be concluded today.
