Civic body pensioners resent payment delay

FAZILKA: Resentment is brewing among the Municipal Council (MC) pensioners as they have not been paid the pension for the month of September.

Fazilka, October 17

Resentment is brewing among the Municipal Council (MC) pensioners as they have not been paid the pension for the month of September.

Mohan Lal Goklany, general secretary, Ferozepur-Bathinda region, Punjab Municipal Pensioners Association, said the issue of non-payment of pension had been brought to the notice of the personal assistant of Local Bodies Minister Brahm Mohindra several times in the past 3-4 days, but to no avail.

Pensioners say they have been facing financial hardships during the festival days. “Pension is often paid in the first five days of every month, but we are still awaiting clearance from the Finance Department,” pensioners said, adding that they will launch an agitation if pension is not paid immediately. — OC
