Sanjeev Bittu is Patiala mayor; Karamjit Rintu that of Amritsar

PATIALA/AMRITSAR: Sanjeev Bittu was named as Patiala mayor here on Tuesday. Yoginder Singh Yogi was named senior deputy mayor and Vinti Sanger as deputy mayor.

Patiala/Amritsar, January 23

Sanjeev Bittu was named as Patiala mayor here on Tuesday. Yoginder Singh Yogi was named senior deputy mayor and Vinti Sanger as deputy mayor.

All three are from Patiala Urban assembly segment and are close to Preneet Kaur.

Bittu has been the leader of opposition during the previous SAD-BJP house.

Meanwhile, Karamjit Singh Rintu was named as mayor of Amritsar, Raman Bakshi was named as senior deputy mayor and Younis Kumar as deputy mayor.

Rintu had contested the assembly elections from Amritsar north in 2012 against Anil Joshi.

In 2017, he did not get the party ticket. According to sources, Captain Amarinder Singh had assured him of mayorship.

Local Bodies Minister Navjot Sidhu did not attend the oath-taking ceremony.

Senior party leader Tript Bajwa announced the names.

“I had visited Sidhu’s office to invite him, but he was not there,” Bajwa said.

“It’s high command’s decision and Sidhu gave in writing that he would obey the decision,” he added.
