Sign no-strike undertaking, firm tells staff

Asron, November 22

The employees and management at DCM Engineering Products are at loggerheads since Saturday when the authorities sought an undertaking from every employee to not get involved in any activity, including strike, which could hamper the production.

The undertaking was made compulsory before entering the factory premises and those who refused to submit it were not allowed to join their duties since Saturday. Many workers agreed to sign the undertaking, but who didn’t couldn’t join the duty.

Rajesh Chopra, senior vice-president of DCM Employees Union, said asking such an undertaking by the management was the violation of rights of employees under the labour laws. The employees have right to go on strike or slowdown the production to register their protest.

General Manager (operations) Dinesh Diman said a few people had been instigating the employees to go slow due to which the production was registered up to 40 per cent only in the recent past. Diman said asking for such undertaking was the legal right of the company. — TNS
