Former Aam Aadmi Party MLA HS Phoolka on Saturday said he would never contest an election but would continue as a social activist and support non-political groups.

Phoolka was the AAP MLA from Dakha but had resigned last year over the government’s alleged inaction on the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report on sacrilege. Assembly Speaker Rana KP Singh accepted Phoolka’s resignation on Friday.

In a press conference held on Saturday, Phoolka said he wouldn’t allow the issue of the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report to die a slow death. He said the issue still stood as the government had not taken any action on the report.

He appealed to the six MLAs, who were vocal on the issue of sacrilege, to show courage and resign from the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. He said former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Ramanjit Singh Sikki, Harminder Singh Gill, Simarjeet Bains, Balwinder Bains and Sukhpal Khaira were vocal on the issue but none of them had bothered to know the fate of the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission report.

He said all these members should resign from the Assembly on the issue of sacrilege. He said multiple resignations would force the government to rethink.
