Unscrupulous elements decamped with Rs 9.39 lakh from an ATM of Punjab and Sind Bank, located near Chief Khalsa Diwan’s Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School at the main GT road, here late on Saturday evening.

The bank authorities came to know about it on Monday morning. Police teams reached the spot and started investigation after registration of a case. The bank authorities are tight-lipped over the incident.

According to information, the miscreants sprayed something on the CCTV camera installed in the ATM cabin. Therefore the CCTV grab was of poor quality and the police are having difficulty in carrying out an investigation.

It has been learnt that there was no damage to the ATM. The accused knew the password to open the ATM vault.

“The incident indicates that some insider, who knew the machine password, is involved in the crime,” said the police. The incident occurred on Saturday evening before shutters were downed by the bank staff.

Mukhwinder Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations), said an investigation was under way. “We are hoping to crack the case soon,” he added.
