Jeju Island (South Korea), October 20

Anirban Lahiri finished with a couple of birdies on the final two holes to finish with a 1-under 71 and improve his position by five places at the halfway mark of the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges here today. Lahiri (69-71) at 4-under 140 is now tied-15th, up from overnight tied-20th.

He ably handled the tough and windy day, carding five birdies against four bogeys.

Lahiri, who shot 69 in the first round, carded 71 in the second to get to four-under 140.

Luke List jumped into sole lead with a bogey-free 5-under 67. List, who is searching for his maiden win on the PGA Tour, was tied-12th overnight.

A shot behind List were Lucas Glover (69-67) and Scott Brown (66-70). Overnight leader Justin Thomas, who shot nine-under 63 on the first day, slipped to tied-4th at seven-under 137.

Lahiri got off to an awful start with bogeys on first two holes, but then settled down to some good play. It ended with two fine birdies on the last two holes.

After bogeys on first and second, Lahiri birdied sixth and ninth. On the back nine, he dropped shots on 10th and 13th, but had a birdie on 12th. “It was really a tough day. I got off to an awful start. Quite honestly, I felt, I played good. I hit a lot of fairways. It was tough with the wind. I thought the pins were really tucked away. It was a hard day. I hit a few bad wedges from the fairway.

“But I just fought my way back. The conditions are such that it’s easy to get on a bad run. Those last two birdies were very important,” said Lahiri said. — PTI
