Student among 2 killed in mishaps

CHANDIGARH: Two accident deaths have been reported from the city in the past 24 hours.

Two accident deaths have been reported from the city in the past 24 hours. A BTech student riding an Activa died after the scooter was being hit by a Swift car at the Sector 46/47/48/49 light point this evening. The car driver was reportedly in an inebriated condition. In another incident, a motorcyclist died after being hit by a CTU bus at the Sector 19/20/27/30 chowk last night.

Sources said the Activa, being driven by Sumit Rawat, a BTech student at a private college in Landran who was a resident of Sector 19, Panchkula, was hit by a speeding Swift car at the Sector 46/47/48/49 light point. The injured was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The car driver has been identified as Gurinder Singh. The police said the accused was returning from some party and was in an inebriated condition.

The car has been impounded by the police and a case registered against the driver at the Sector 49 police station. The car driver was arrested and later released on bail. The accident led to traffic snarls at the light point.

In the other incident, a motorcyclist, identified as Paras, a resident of Daria village, was killed after the motorcycle was hit by a CTU bus. The victim was heading home when the accident took place.

He lost balance and fell on the road and suffered a head injury though he was wearing a helmet. Passersby gathered at the spot and informed the police. A PCR vehicle rushed the victim to the GMCH, Sector 32, where doctors declared him brought dead. The victim was working as a salesman in a company.

The police have impounded the CTU bus and a case has been registered against the driver, Narinder Rana, at the Sector 19 police station. The bus driver was arrested and later released on bail.
