India in Parliament.

IN the House of Commons, replying to Sir J.D. Rees, Mr. Montagu detailed the main features of the present recruiting movement in India. He said the question of granting more commissions to Indian was being sympathetically considered. Mr. Montagu explained that the proposed announcement to the regulations for the civil service examinations, cabled on May 25 and 31, did not refer to candidates who were subjects of Native States but provided for the special case of a candidate who, being himself a British subject, was born, or whose father or mother were born, outside His Majesty's dominions. An extension of children's allowance to junior officers of the Indian Army was also being considered.
