Mr. Gandhi''s Speech.

THE speech made by Mr. Gandhi on the occasion was as remarkable as everything emanating from Mr. Gandhi usually is. Its reference to Lord Willingdon'saction had the dignity and the self-restraint of the strong man who is conscious of his strength. "The insult offered to Mr. Tilak who was the idol of the people on account of his burning love of country and immense scarifies and, through him, to Home Rule Leagues was," he said, "an insult to the nation at large, and it was their duty to feel it as such and to protest against it." Again, "I truly share the opinion of members of the Home Rule League that we must protect national honour by asking for an expression of regret for His Excellency's faux pas." Of the ruling of His Excellency that there could be no amendment to a loyalty must, indeed, be skindeep which requires a wall of protection against criticism."
