New medical college in Bengal

THE Government of Bengal has issued a resolution raising the status of the Albert Victor Institution at Belgachie into a College and sanctioning an initial grant of Rs 5 lakh and a recurring grant of Rs 50,000 on certain conditions.



THE Government of Bengal has issued a resolution raising the status of the Albert Victor Institution at Belgachie into a College and sanctioning an initial grant of Rs 5 lakh and a recurring grant of Rs 50,000 on certain conditions. The conditions are that the Committee should raise Rs 2 ½ lakh from contributions and secure municipal and other grants of Rs 40,000 a year for the same purpose and confirm to the Government standard of education and equipment. The objective is to establish a fully equipped college for higher medical education and improvement of the position of the independent medical profession in teaching and training. A hospital would be attached to the college with 200 beds and new building will erected. The college will be affiliated to the Calcutta University for the 
M.B. Course.
