The Barnala administration is all prepared for the elections on Wednesday. Total 2.99 lakh voters will exercise their franchise to elect Zila Parishad members from 10 zones and Panchayat Samiti members from 59 zones of the district.

Sources said there are total 368 polling booths in the district and voters will be able to cast votes between 8 am to 4 pm. In all, the administration has deputed a total of 2,200 officers from the civil departments, out of which 1,850 are on polling duty while the remaining 350 are kept as reserve for any emergency situation.

Five officers have been posted at every booth as polling staff while 27 supervisors have been deputed for overall supervision. Besides, the administration has deputed about 1,000 cops across the district. A total of 27 candidates are in fray for 10 zones of Zila Parishad while 68 candidates are contesting for 25 zones of Block Samitis of Barnala. In Mehal Kalan, 39 candidates are in fray for 15 zones of Block Samitis while in Sehna, a total of 41 candidates are contesting for 19 zones.

“We have made all required arrangements for the elections. Police officers and civil department employees have been deputed in required numbers. We will deal strictly if anyone tries to create a problem,” said Dharam Pal Gupta, DC-cum- District Electoral Officer, Barnala.
