Construction material dumped on road poses a threat to residents

Construction material for under-construction commercial and residential buildings can be witnessed scattered on roads at many places in the city, posing a threat to the lives of commuters.

Construction material such as sand, gravel, iron and bricks can be seen dumped on roads, shrinking the space on the already congested city roads. Sadly, the administration has turned a blind eye towards this problem, so people have no fear of law and keep such material on roads.

It is mandatory for a person to take permission from the MC by paying fee if he wants to dump such material outside their building along the road. In reality, very few people pay fee and take permission from the MC. This is all due to the apathetic attitude of MC officials.

Sanjiv Kumar, a city resident, said the construction of buildings was going on the GT road and the owners had kept construction material on the road, leaving little space for commuters to cross the road.

He said as the matter was related to the safety of commuters, the authorities concerned should take strict action against those violating the norms.

Another resident Swaran Singh said, “Apart from dumping construction material, owners block the way of commuters whenever some consignment is unloaded at the construction site.”

He said many constructions were going on in the city and bricks, sand and gravel were kept on narrow roads, making these more congested.

MC mayor Balwant Rai Nath said he would take up the matter and checking would be conducted in the city and if anyone was found violating the norms by dumping such material on roads, a challan would be issued to him.

He said one could not block the road which was illegal and action could be initiated if a written complaint was received by the corporation in this regard.
