The police on Friday claimed to have arrested an alleged gangster, Manjinder Singh alias Dimple, from Multania Bir Road in Bathinda on Friday. A resident of Jaito, Dimple is a member of the Jaggu Bhagwan Puria group.

He was allegedly involved in many crimes and as many as four criminal cases have been pending against him at the Jaito police station for his involvement in liquor smuggling, possessing illegal weapons and criminal assault, said Rajbachan Singh Sandhu, SSP Faridkot.

Dimple was presently camping at Bathinda and after getting a tip-off, the CIA wing of the Jaito police conducted a raid and nabbed him from Multania Bir Road, said the SSP.

The police have recovered one.12 bore pistol, cartridges and 800 tablets of intoxicants from him.

The first criminal case against Dimple was registered at Jaito on March 1, 2015, and the latest case was registered on July 28 for the offence of inflicting grievous hurt on some persons.

The SSP said the interrogation of the arrested gangster revealed that he was provided a 9 MM pistol by Chamkaur Singh alias Kauro and Davinder Singh of Sewewala village of Jaito to kill Gurbax Singh Sewewala, another gangster.

However, before Dimple could execute the task of killing Gurbax, the former was arrested by the Faridkot police for his involvement in a murder case.

Gurbax Singh is the brother of Ranjit Singh, a gangster known for his political connections in Jaito.

Facing many criminal cases, Ranjit Singh was killed at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, on April 19, 2013, by members of a farmer family who were too harassed and traumatised by him.

To retaliate to the killing, Ranjit Singh’s younger brother Gurbax Singh formed a new gang by including many youths and this gang had allegedly killed two members of a family in March 2014 at Sewewala village of Faridkot.

SSP Rajbachan Singh Sandhu said Dimple was in contact with Bhart Bhushan alias Bhola Shooter, presently lodged at the Faridkot jail.

Bhola had provided an international operating mobile phone SIM card to Dimple. Using this SIM, Dimple was in constant touch with Bhola Shooter, Chamkaur Singh Sewewala and Jaggu Bhagwan Puria.

Bhola Shooter hogged the headlines this April after he had celebrated his birthday in Faridkot Central Jail with some other inmates and posted photographs of the event on Facebook and other social media sites, catching the jail authorities unawares.

The SSP said Dimple was given a task to kill Biney Deora of Kotkapura, Kirrar of Faridkot and Amna of Jaito due to inter-gang rivalries.

Presently, he was active in drug peddling. The Jaito police have registered the fifth criminal case against Dimple for the offence of drug smuggling and possessing illegal weapons on Friday.
