Waive PTA fund for students, demands union

Members of the Punjab Students Union (PSU) staged a protest outside the principal’s office at Government Rajindra College on Thursday. They demanded that PTA funds must be waived for students from general and BC categories.

They gathered near the door of principal’s office and sat on the floor to mark protest.

The protesting students raised slogans against the government and college management.

They remained outside the principal’s office for around two hours. Later, when the college asked the students union members to submit their demands in written, the latter called off the strike.

Sangeeta Rani, president of the Punjab Students Union, said, “We have been demanding waiving of PTA fund for general as well as BC category students from the college authorities, but nothing has been done in the matter till now. After the college authorities asked us to submit our demands in written, we have submitted the same. However, the college management has not clarified its stand. If the authorities do not waive it, we will continue our protest in the coming days as well.”

Earlier, the PSU members, along with fresh admission aspirants, had carried out a protest rally on the premises of the college and raised slogans against the management.

Satveer Singh, officiating principal, Government Rajindra College, said, “There is a nominal increase in PTA fund. Our hands are tied as we have 38 guest faculty members in the college for whom we need to make payments.”

Counselling foradmissions on Day 4

Admission aspirants in large numbers turned up for counselling session for different courses on day four at Rajindra College. Students for BSc (second year) and MSc (mathematics second year) came for counselling.

Meanwhile, the college management stated that the protesting students had disrupted the admission process.

The admissions for BSc (non-medical third year), BA (economics honours second year), BSc (economic honours third year) and BCom (second year) would be done on Friday.
