Bathinda, December 7

A woman in her sixties has allegedly committed suicide after jumping in the thermal lake during early morning hours of Saturday. The deceased, Sukhjit Kaur (58), a resident of Gill Patti village, has left a suicide note, blaming two persons for abetting her suicide.

Her body was spotted floating a roadside vend owner, who informed members of a city-based NGO of the incident. NGO members reached the spot and called in the police. The Thermal police got the dead body fished out from the Lake Number 2 and sent it for a post-mortem examination to the Civil Hospital.

According to a statement given by family members and in-laws of the deceased, she was mentally upset for the past few years after the death of her husband in 2014. The police have also recovered a suicide note from the deceased, wherein she has given names of two persons responsible for her suicide. Apart from a suicide note, a ticket was also recovered from her possession. She boarded a bus in the morning from her village and alighted in city.

Investigating Officer Jagdeep Singh said: “On a statement by Balraj Singh, niece of the deceased, we have started proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. In his statement, he said they did not want any inquiry or case against anyone and his aunt committed suicide as she was mentally upset after the death of his uncle. Since, it took long to establish the identity of the deceased and record statements of family members, the post-mortem examination will be conducted on Sunday.”
