Patiala, February 23

An eyesore for residents, the road connecting Railway Crossing 22 and 24 has been giving bumpy rides to residents of Partap Nagar, Gurdarshan Nagar and Model Town here.

Constructed in 2013 at a cost of Rs 23.32 lakh, the road connecting Railway Crossing 23 and 24 has been in poor shape after it was dug up for civil work in 2019. Similarly, the road connecting Railway Crossing 22 and 23, which was constructed in 2015 at an expenditure of Rs 12 lakh, is also in bad shape.

The road is used by residents of colonies and several other areas, including Pratap Nagar, Bachitar Nagar and Bharat Nagar.

One of the affected commuters said, “This road was dug to lay pipes in July/August last year. It has been left abandoned since then and no repair work has been carried out. People travelling on this road are at God’s mercy.”

Anuradha, a resident of a nearby area, said, “This road is badly damaged, giving a bumpy ride to commuters and affecting their vehicles. With so many uneven patches and potholes on the road, it seems tragedy is waiting to happen.”

Officials of the local Municipal Corporation said work on recarpeting the road was under consideration. “We have sent a proposal in this regard. The work will begin after it is cleared by the department.”
