Chandigarh, October 9
An Amritsar resident, who was arrested with 2.44 kg of charas, was today sentenced to 10 years in jail.
The convict, Nitin Kumar, was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in 2016. The court also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
As per reports, on November 21, 2016, the NCB had received secret information that a drug peddler was passing through Sector 43. The NCB laid traps and nabbed the convict.
Kumar had two bags in his hand — one red and the other black. On checking, three polybags were found inside the packets. A total of 2.44-kg charas was recovered from the bags.
Kumar, during interrogation, had stated that he brought the contraband from a village in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh and sold it in and around Chandigarh.
