5 hurt in head-on collision

ZIRAKPUR: A Patiala-based couple and three others sustained injuries when the two cars, in which they were travelling, collided head-on near Bhullar Resort on the Zirakpur-Patiala road on Wednesday night.

A Patiala-based couple and three others sustained injuries when the two cars, in which they were travelling, collided head-on near Bhullar Resort on the Zirakpur-Patiala road on Wednesday night.

Those injured include Gagandeep Singh, his wife Pushpinder Kaur, both residents of Patiala; Akshay, Aditya and Vikram, all staying in a rented accommodation at Sigma City, Zirakpur. All injured are in the age group of 20 to 25 years.

The police are yet to ascertained the cause of the accident as they are yet to record statements of the injured. 

Akshay, Aditya and Vikram were coming to Zirakpur from the Rajpura side. The driver of the car lost control over it. It, after hitting the median, veered on to the other side of the highway and collided head-on with the another car driven by Gagandep Singh, coming from the Chandigarh side. 

The police said Gagandeep Singh and his wife Pushpinder Kaur were first rushed to the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh, from where they were shifted to Amar Hospital, Patiala. Both underwent surgery. Vikram was admitted to Fortis Hospital. Akshay and Aditya have been admitted to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh. 

According to the police, they were not fit to record their statement. It has been learnt that the Zirakpur police will go to Patiala tomorrow to record the statement of Gagandeep Singh and his wife Pushpinder.
