70-yr-old watchman murdered near cremation ground

A watchman at cremation ground at Ghalori gate in the city was murdered with sharp-edged weapon on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday here. The deceased has been identified as Om Prakash (70). The victim had been working at the cremation ground for more than 15 years, said nearby residents.

Police officials said they were informed about the incident by some nearby residents, who were on a morning walk. Residents saw the dead body near a park adjacent to the cremation ground and informed the police.

The Kotwali police station SHO, Sukhdev Singh, said the police informed the family of the deceased after identification of the body. 

“The body has wounds inflicted with sharp-edged weapon. We are screening the footage of the CCTV cameras installed near the location,” said police officials.

“We are also gathering other evidence to identify and arrest the suspects at the earliest,” they added.

The police have registered a case of murder against unidentified persons under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
