Chandigarh, January 13

To make the teaching-learning process of science and maths interesting and effective, the UT Education Department has started activity-based learning in government schools.

Teachers teaching maths and science to Classes VI to VIII prepared syllabus-based activities.

As many as 76 activities were prepared in maths and 61 in science.

These activities were prepared under the Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan (RAA) during the three-day training of teachers held recently. The teachers demonstrated these activities to students.

Similarly, syllabus-based activities are being prepared for Classes IX and X. A soft copy of all activities will also be provided to teachers, which will help students revise syllabus in an interesting way.

For this, mathematics and science kits procured from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) have been provided to all elementary schools.

Education Secretary BL Sharma said: “Activity-based education is a very effective method of teaching and learning. It is a very attractive, interesting and participative process of education. What students learn through demonstration of activity remains imprinted in their mind throughout their life.”

Sharma said, “It is a commendable initiative undertaken by Mission Coordinator Alka Mehta. It will go a long way in raising the standards and quality of education in Chandigarh.”
