Addict arrested for snatching woman’s phone

CHANDIGARH:A 19-year-old youth has been arrested for snatching a mobile phone from a woman at Burail, Sector 45.

A 19-year-old youth has been arrested for snatching a mobile phone from a woman at Burail, Sector 45.

The phone was snatched from Kasuri Khatun, a resident of Burail village, on May 7. She was on her way home from the market when the incident took place.

The police had registered a case at the Sector 34 police station. They scrutinised the footage of around 45 CCTV cameras installed in the area followed by a massive search operation during which around 170 tenants were verified and 37 suspects questioned.

“The suspect was identified by some people in the CCTV grabs following which a naka was laid in Sector 45 and Vikas, alias Sonu, a resident of Burail village, was apprehended,” said a police official. The police said the mobile phone was recovered from the suspect, a drug addict. TNS
