Chandigarh: A fine bowling performance by Amit Shukla helped Chandigarh register a massive win over hosts Ludhiana in the Punjab Inter-District U-19 Cricket Championship for Dhruv Pandove Trophy on Sunday.

A fine bowling performance by Amit Shukla helped Chandigarh register a massive win over hosts Ludhiana in the Punjab Inter-District U-19 Cricket Championship for Dhruv Pandove Trophy on Sunday.

Shukla returned with a match haul of 9/129 to wreck the hosts at PAU Grounds in Ludhiana. He was ably supported by Raj Angad (5/23).

In the previous match, Shukla claimed eight wickets against Gurdaspur to help the side in pulling out three points. Chasing Chandigarh's first innings total of 373 runs, Ludhiana folded their first innings on 105 runs, while facing follow-on, the hosts were packed on 190.

Arjun Puri and Manjot Singh added 51 runs for the second wickets. The duo was looking good, after losing the wicket of Vikas (0) in the very first over, but Shukla accounted for Puri (37 off 55 balls, with five boundaries and two sixes) to reduce the side at 51/2. 

After this wicket, Angad took the charge and claimed five wickets- Manjot (29 off 43 balls, with five boundaries), Jaish Jain (1), Vaibhav Kalra (10), Chirag Sharma (5) and Krishna Kanojia (0) to reduce the side at 79/7. Thereafter, Kaniska Sharma and Baljot Singh took the total to 102 runs, before Shukla claimed Kaniska (11). Baljot (12) also followed the suit after Harshit claimed him on the same total reading.  Shukla took the final wickets-Aryan Dayas (3)-to finally pack Ludhiana on 105. 

Trailing by 268 runs, Ludhiana boys were asked to follow on but again bundled out on 190. After Angad's five wicket haul, Shukla swung into action and claimed six wickets. Openers Vikas and Arjun started well and posted 51 runs. But Laskshay Rakhra accounted for Arjun (36 off 27 balls, with four boundaries) and three sixes. Thereafter, Jain joined Vikas and the duo scored 19 runs for the second wicket. Jain (17 off 19 balls, with three boundaries) fall prey to Shukla. Kalra then joined Vikas and the duo played sensibly to raise a 34-run partnership for the third wicket. Harshit claimed Vikas (36 off 70 balls, with seven boundaries) and next-in Chirag (0) to leave the hosts struggling at 114/3. Thereafter, Shukla claimed Kalra (9), Kaniska (1), Kanojia (2), Dayas (0) and Manjot (0) to pack Ludhiana at 190. Chandigarh claimed seven points from this win. 

Patiala, Mohali play draw 

An unbeaten 151 runs stand, for the sixth wicket, between Deepak Kumar (104) and Nimit Sharma (60) helped Patiala to take home three points from the draw against Mohali at IS Bindra PCA Stadium. Chasing Mohali's first innings total of 313/8, Patiala posted 327/5 before declaring their innings with a 14 runs lead.  Patiala openers Deepinder Singh and Pukhraj Mann scored 51 runs for the first wicket, before the latter was claimed Hardik Chaudhary. 

Thereafter, Anshul Chaudhary claimed Haren Goel (49 off 97 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) and Deepinder (23 off 83 balls) to stop Patiala at 137/3. Next-in Fatheveer was claimed by Harry Dhaliwal without he could open his account. Riteshwar Singh (36 off three boundaries and a six) then in company of Deepak took the total to 176 before falling prey to Dhaliwal. Thereafter, Deepak (104 off 117 balls, with 14 boundaries and three sixes) and Nimit (60 off 113 balls, with eight boundaries) ensured a smooth sail for the visitors.  

Dipanshu claims seven to script Amritsar's win 

Hosts Amritsar beat Gurdaspur by an innings and 93 runs to garner seven points at Gandhi Grounds. Chasing Gurdaspur's total of 130, the hosts declared their innings on 344/6 to gain a 214-run lead. In their second innings, Gurdaspur boys were bundled out on 121 runs, with Dipanshu Chadha claiming 7/18. Resuming from 180 for no loss, Amritsar posted 344 runs. Their innings was built on the fine contributions of Akasdeep Singh (85 off 124 balls, with 12 boundaries), Taranveer Singh (67 off 138 balls, with 12 boundaries), Sarthak (57 off 65 balls, with seven boundaries and a six), Sahil Sharma (34) and Vivek (31). Rajiv Kumar claimed two wickets for the bowling side, while Madhav Singh Pathania, Dilpreet Singh Bajwa, Pahulbeer Singh and Ekamjot Singh Mann claimed a wicket each. 

In their second innings, Aditya (40 off 71 balls, with eight boundaries) and Bajwa (23 off 49 balls, with four boundaries) were the only main contributors. Chadha returned with 7/18 for the bowling side, Arjun Pappal claimed two and Sumit Sharma claimed one.

Jalandhar claim three points against Kapurthala
