Kathak dancers Nalini and Kamalini lit up the 'Nritya Sandhya' concert organised by Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi at Tagore Theatre here today.

Born in Agra and brought up in Delhi, both sisters have extensively performed in India and abroad with a view to propagating the art run Sangeetika - an institute of performing arts.

Nalini and Kamalini commenced with 'Shiv Stuti' and delineated the fundamental syllables of Kathak such as 'tode', 'tukde', 'parans' and 'tihais'. They were joined by two other danseuses Sonia Gupta Rao and Hina Wasan for 'birhani nayaika'.

All dancers in ecstatic mood presented 'hori' dance on songs 'Matt maro pitchkari or 'Holi khelat Nand Lal Braj mein'.

Kamal Arora, chairman, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, and Atul Sharma, vice-chairman, and Balkar Sidhu felicitated the artistes.

Parvesh Sethi Annual Award in ' Allied Theatre Arts' has been bestowed on artist Baljit Bala for excellence in the field of theatre make up. The award carries a shawl, a memento and cash prize of Rs 25000.
