Chandigarh, December 31

To induce transparency in the system of education, the Chandigarh Education Department is all set to launch online portal in line with e-Punjab School Management System portal by the Punjab Government.

The portal will be accessible by citizens and will be launched in January. The information was given by the Education Department.

The UT took the initiative with the Department of School Education, Punjab, under the State Mentoring Programme for exchanging best practices of states/ UTs under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD).

Under the programme, the UT will adopt e-Punjab School Management Software and online teacher transfer policy for the computerisation of data related to school, teachers and students.

The Management Information System (MIS) web portal deals with all information required to run the school management system. It will maintain records related to the school infrastructure — the physical position of the school building, number of classrooms, other room details, availability of necessary amenities. Further, information about students, teaching and non-teaching staff will also be available on the portal.

The administration will keep a complete track of information by the school administration. The portal will be accessible by citizens to bring transparency in the system and encourage feedbacks.

Each school will be given their respective user ID and password to manage their own school portal. The District Education Officer, Director School Education and Secretary Education will be given username and password to access internal data and taking action.

How e-Punjab portal works

The e-Punjab portal is accessible by citizens and contains data of all schools in 22 districts of Punjab. All websites of schools are available on the portal. A daily report on a number of students served with mid-day meal and number of students present on a particular day is uploaded on the portal. Students’ details — age, caste, religion, health, class wise and UID verify details — are available along with the infrastructure details of schools — building type, availability of drinking water, auditorium, ramp, kitchen shed, separate toilet for boys, girls and staff, disabled-friendly toilets, playground, boundary wall, status of electricity and portability of drinking water.

  • The administration will keep a complete track of information by the school administration. The portal will be accessible by citizens to bring transparency in the system and encourage feedbacks.
  • Each school will be given a user ID and password to manage its own school portal. The District Education Officer, Director School Education and Secretary Education will be given username and password to access internal data and taking action.
