Fire breaks out at chemical unit in Dera Bassi, no casualty

A fire broke out on the premises of Punjab Chemicals and Crop Protection Limited (PCCPL) on the Mubarikpur Road at Dera Bassi on Friday evening. However, no loss of life and property was reported from the incident, said sources.

It was timely act of the company unit staff that they able to douse the flames before the fire tender could reach the spot. The cause of the fire is yet to be known.

It has been learnt that the fire broke out due to flash in a reactor around 5.30 pm and the empty bags that were lying near it caught fire. Initially, the factory staff with the fire safety equipment’s was able to douse the flames and controlled the fire from spreading to other unit. The fire department from Dera Bassi also reached the spot after getting the information. It took them less than 20 minutes to complete the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the factory officials said that no loss of property was reported as the fire did not reach the unit and was timely controlled.
