Five cases registered in Panchkula

PANCHKULA: The local police registered five cases wherein people were found bursting firecrackers beyond 10 pm on Diwali night.

The local police registered five cases wherein people were found bursting firecrackers beyond 10 pm on Diwali night.

“There were magisterial orders under Section 144 of the CrPC, banning bursting of firecrackers beyond 10 pm on Diwali night. Four cases are registered at the Sector 5 police station and one at the Sector 20 police station,” said Abhishek Jorwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Panchkula.

All the five cases were against unknown people.

The police had found two youths bursting crackers in Sector 4 at 12:30 am on the Diwali night. On seeing the cops, they fled from the spot.

In another case, a youth was seen alighting firecrackers in Sector 10 at 11:40 pm. He too fled from the scene on seeing cops. Some youths were bursting crackers in Sector 7 around 11:50 pm. They ran away as they saw the police.

In yet another case, some youths were flouting the SC firecracker ban in Sector 6 at 12:10 am, the police said. A case was registered against two unknown youths for bursting crackers around 11:30 pm at the Sector 20 market on the Diwali night.

The apex court had allowed bursting of crackers only for two hours on the Diwali night. In this connection, the Panchkula DC had fixed the duration from 8 pm to 10 pm.
