The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on Monday directed the Ambala Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to make arrangements for the treatment of the HIV positive minor boy, admitted to a hospital as he is suspected to be suffering from TB as well.

The CWC members have also planned to bring her sister, who is also suffering from HIV, to Ambala. She is currently staying at an open shelter home in Panchkula.

Speaking to The Tribune here today, CWC chairperson Vandna Sharma said, “We have written to the Chief Medical Officer for the proper treatment of the boy. As soon as we get his TB test report, further steps will be taken. We want to reunite both the siblings at the earliest.”

The children were already being treated for HIV at the Civil Hospital in Ambala City. Earlier, it was planned to take both the children to Chandigarh but now it has been decided to resume their treatment at Ambala. Regarding the absence of a child care institution in Ambala, an official said a file has already been moved by the Ambala Municipal Corporation to the Women and Child Development Department for the transfer of eight acres in Saddopur village for the construction of an integrated complex.

Mohit Aggarwal, CWC member, said “Efforts are being made to ensure the best treatment for the children. Directions have been issued to the Health Department to get the test for the detection of TB done and provide its report at the earliest. A letter has been sent to the police as well for the safety and security of the minors. The matter has been raised with the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.”
