Milan pulls off victory

PANCHKULA:Chirag Ahuja went down fighting against Milan in the boys’ U-17 category on the opening day of the 14th Ashwani Gupta Memorial District Badminton Championship at the Sector 3 Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex here today.

Chirag Ahuja went down fighting against Milan in the boys’ U-17 category on the opening day of the 14th Ashwani Gupta Memorial District Badminton Championship at the Sector 3 Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex here today.

Milan logged a 22-20 22-20 win over Ahuja to sail further in the championship.

Agastya Raghav registered an easy 21-2 21-1 win against Rohan Pattar, while Ishaan overpowered Kunal Mann 21-14 21-6 in another trouble-free tie. Lakshya also moved into the next round by defeating Anish Raj 21-1 21-3, and Shaurya overpowered Shivanshu Sharma 21-5 21-7. Lakshay Sharma logged a 21-18 21-8 victory against Nipun Verma, and Shikha Saxena won the last match of the category by defeating Aryan 21-5 21-13.

In the boys’ U-15 category, Agastya Raghav logged an easy 21-8 21-6 victory over Abhinav. Kartikey Beniwal beat Harshit 21-13 21-17, while Lakshay defeated Deven Garg 21-8 21-7. Shaurya beat Prashant Yadav 21-13 21-11. Lakshay (junior) eased past Saksham 21-11 21-11, and Aditya Sharma beat Adhiraj Narang 21-0 21-2. Aarin Verma registered an easy 21-3 21-3 win over Mokshit Bhadoo.

Kanishka advances

Kanishka Singh beat Advita 21-12 21-7 in the girls’ U-17 category. Jyoti also advanced by defeating Meenakshi Mittal 21-11 21-17, while Rijul Saini logged a 21-9 21-13 win against Vineeta Panchal. Khushi Boora recorded a 21-15 21-14 win over Tanishka Mahendra, and Nikita defeated Sia Singh 21-1 21-2. 

In the girls’ U-13 category, Ruchi Chahal eased past Avni 21-1 21-0. Akanksha Singh also logged an easy 21-4 21-3 win over Panyaa Chahal, and Bhavna defeated Vanshika 21-16 21-14. In the last match, Ananya defeated Yamini 21-8 21-6. 

The championship was inaugurated by Dr. Balkar Singh, Deputy Commissioner Panchkula, along with Bhupinder Singh, Director Sports & Youth Welfare Haryana, and Gian Chand Gupta, MLA Panchkula. —TNS
