CHANDIGARH:Mouma Das of OIL and Harmeet Desai of ONGC won the women and men singles title, respectively, on the penultimate day of the XXXVIII PSPB Inter Unit Table tennis Championship, at the Sector 23 TT Hall, on Wednesday.

Mouma Das of OIL and Harmeet Desai of ONGC won the women and men singles title, respectively, on the penultimate day of the XXXVIII PSPB Inter Unit Table tennis Championship, at the Sector 23 TT Hall, on Wednesday.

In the final of the women’s category,  Mouma overpowered Sutirtha Mukherjee of ONGC 11-2 11-2 11-5 11-5. Earlier, in the semifinal, she defeated K Shamini of IOCL in a tough verdict 11-7 12-8 8-1111-5 6-11 11-5 11-3.  Sutirtha meanwhile won her match against Pooja Sahasrabudhe of ONGC 8-11 11-7 8-11 12-10 11-5 11-9. 

Meanwhile, Desai overpowered Anthony Amalraj of ONGC 11-7 9-11 11-6 11-8 7-11 11-9 to win the men’s title. He posted an 11-9 7-11 11-8 9-11 11-7 15-13 win against G Sathiyan of ONGC before in the final. Amalraj defeated Sharath Kamal 11-7 11-5 11-5 11-2 in another semifinal.       

Pankaj Gupta of ONGC won the veteran's title by defeating LV Thakra of ONGC 9-11 11-2 12-10 11-5. He had defeated Soneshwar Dekh of OIL 11-6 13-11 11-3 in the first semi, while Thakra defeated FX Rajesh Saxena of ONGC 11-5 11-5 11-4 in another semi.   

Earlier,  in the quarterfinals of the women’s catgeory, Pooja defeated top ranked Archna Kamath 6-11 11-7 4-11 11-7 11-8 11-7, while Sutirtha overpowered Kritwika Sinha Roy 13-11 13-11 4-11 11-6 11-6. K Shamini stunned Manika Batra 11-3 11-7 9-11 11-5 11-6, while Mouma registered an hard earned win against Reeth Rishiya 7-11 5-11 11-6 13-11 6-11 11-6 11-9. Meanwhile, in the men’s quarters, Desai overpowered India’s top ranked Manav Thakkar 11-5 11-4 12-10 14-16 11-3. G Sathiyan also logged an easy 11-6 11-7 11-4 11-3 win against Sourav Saha. Amalraj logged 14-16 11-7 11-6 12-10 11-8 win against young Jeet Chandra, while Sharath Kamal defaeted Jubin Kumar 9-11 11-7 11-6 11-5 3-11 11-8. 

In the veteran’s  quarters, Soneshwar defaeted Anuj Sharma 11-7 11-3 11-5, while Pankaj Gupta overpowered PS Wagh 11-6 11-3 11-8.  Thakra logged a 11-8 11-7 9-11 11-9 win against FX Joseph.
